Overnight flight from London Heathrow to Nairobi.

Day 2

Arrive Nairobi. On arrival you will be met by Benson, our representative from our ground handling team in Kenya. You will be transferred by road to Porini, which is approximately 3 hours away, arriving for lunch. The last hour of your transfer can be considered as a game drive as you go cross-country to Selenkay and Porini Camp, your base for the next two nights.

Day 2 – 4 – Maasai Living

2 nights at Porini Safari Camp, Selenkay Private Game Reserve, on an all inclusive basis (all meals, house wines, beer & soft drinks, game drives & park fees)

The Selenkay Conservancy is well off the beaten track and has not been visited by tourists until now. It lies in the heart of Masailand and offers exclusive game viewing without any other tourist vehicles in the area. The animals are truly wild and not yet habituated to the presence of vehicles. The number of visitors is limited to retain the wild and unspoilt nature of the area and to minimise the impact on the environment.

Porini Camp has 6 spacious guest tents, comfortably furnished and with en suite bathrooms. It is small and on the lines of the traditional luxury safari camp.

Entirely private, Porini is located in the heart of Selenkay conservancy and is only available to a maximum of 12 guests at a time.

Activities included: All activities and game drives are included as follows

·          game drive and explore the Selenkay Conservancy

·          night game drive, a unique experience searching for animals at their most active under a spotlight.

·          one full morning game driving in the Amboseli Game Reserve, famous for its large herds of elephants, with a picnic lunch

·          ‘walk with the Masai’ – this is a unique experience seeing Masai culture first-hand and a chance to explore the area on foot with your own warrior guides.

Day 4

Morning game drive in Selenkay Game Reserve before breakfast. You will then be driven to Wilson Airport for your flight to the Mara. Transfer to Porini Mara.

Day 4 – 6

2 nights at Porini Mara Safari Camp, Selenkay Private Game Reserve, on an all inclusive board basis (including all meals, wine & beer at dinner and game drives)

Porini Camp has recently been set up in the exclusive wildlife conservancy of Ol Kinyei, one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Serengeti-Mara eco-system. This is pristine wilderness with open savannah plains, riverine forest, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and spectacular views across the Mara.

Ol Kinyei belongs to a Maasai community who have recently set aside the conservancy as a sanctuary for wildlife. The conservancy holds a wide variety of the animal species for which the Mara is famous including a large resident pride of lions.

The Porini camp has 6 guest tents sited in the shade of Yellow-barked Acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, a permanently flowing watercourse within Ol Kinyei. The tents are spacious and each has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower.

The camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests, giving the experience of real camping in the bush in an exclusive private wilderness but with all the comforts required by discerning travellers. Food is excellent with home baked bread, fresh salads and high quality meals prepared by the camp Chef.

Within the Ol Kinyei conservancy guests enjoy morning, evening and night game drives, sundowners at scenic viewing points and escorted walks with Maasai guides. The camp is located less than 18 kms from the Maasai Mara park boundary. Ol Kinyei Conservancy is 250 kms from Nairobi by road - a 4 hour journey. It has its own airstrip for private charter flights and is 16 kms from the Siana airstrip used by the daily scheduled flights to Mara from Nairobi.

Facilities and activities included for all guests: Spacious Luxury Safari tents with double and single beds, solar electric lights, en-suite bath-rooms. Full day in Mara national Reserve with picnic lunch, escorted walk with Maasai guides, sundowner drink to watch sunset from scenic viewpoint.

Day 6

Transfer to Mara Airstrip for your flight to Wilson Airport. Transfer to the Norfolk Hotel.

Day 6 – 7

1 night at the Norfolk Hotel on a bed & breakfast basis

Recently renovated, The Norfolk Hotel is centrally located and surrounded by tranquil gardens. It was built at the turn of the century in Tudor style and many tales of its colourful and romantic history are told. It is said that without the Norfolk, Nairobi might never have become Kenya's capital, for the town grew up around the hotel. No other hotel in Kenya can offer this combination of history, five star comfort and old world hospitality.

The large rooms and spacious garden cottages have private bathrooms with shower, mini-bar, television and radio & direct dial telephone. The restaurant and bar facilities are varied and include The Ibis Grill, The Lord Delamere Restaurant and the more casual Delamere Terrace and Poolside Restaurants.

Facilities include an ultra-modern health and fitness centre, with sauna, steam rooms, gymnasium, aerobics room, relaxation lounge, and massage. There is also a freshwater heated pool.

Day 7

Transfer to Nairobi Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival you will be met by a representative from our ground handling team, Zantours, who will transfer you to Stone Town (c 15 mins).

Day 7 – 9

2 nights at 236 Hurumzi (Emerson & Green) in a Suite on a bed & breakfast basis

Renowned as one of the best small hotels in the world, this unique venue is situated off the mystical cobbled streets of Stone Town. The building is a beautifully restored palace that was once the home of one of the richest men in the Swahili Empire.

Each of the 17 rooms and suites has been designed to try and recreate the grandeur of the past in its own unique way. Original stucco décor, ornately carved doors, antique furnishings and wonderful stone baths are featured throughout the hotel. Its real highlight is the open air tower top restaurant that commands superb views over Stone Town and the harbour.

Day 9

Transfer to the North East coast (c 1 hour).

Day 9 – 14

5 nights at the Asali Luxury Beach Hut, Zanzibar, on a half board basis (breakfast and dinner)

The Asali Luxury Beach Hut can only be described as a hidden gem. Situated separately from the rest of the village at the end of it’s own private path this thatched bungalow is completely secluded. It has an open living area with a plunge pool in the middle of it, large sofas, a bar and a kitchen – used by your personal chef to prepare your meals. The luxury bedroom has a king-size bed that is raised so you can see over the plunge pool to your own Robinson Crusoe beach. If you are looking for a romantic paradise or a secluded place to completely unwind, Asali is perfect in every way.

Winnie and Helen (replaced on their days off by Anne) cook, clean and serve the suite. The plunge pool along with the rest of the suite is cleaned daily. Breakfast and dinner are served at the suite. Lunch can be done as a picnic or can be taken in the main restaurant whatever you prefer (lunch is not included). Dinner is a private and romantic affair and can be taken on the beach in the Jambo shop (to protect from the wind), on the sand between the suite and the beach, on the coconut deck, or even in the sitting area around a coconut table sitting on floor cushions.

Asali Luxury Beach Hut is part of (but set apart from) the small guesthouse – Matemwe Beach Village.  There is a restaurant and chill out bar area which you can stroll down to for lunch or if you are looking for some company or a change of scenery.

Activities & sites nearby: Scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, dolphin trips, sunset cruises, sailing, inter tidal walks.

Diving at Matemwe:  One of the main reasons for coming to Matemwe is for the world class diving at Mnemba Attol.  There is enough variety on Mnemba for about 4 to 5 days worth of good diving, maybe 8 to 10 dives, although the reef is always ready to spring a surprise or two.

Mnemba is a circular reef, with aquarium conditions on the inside and some good wall-diving on the outer. Diving here is a year-round event, with

reasonably good conditions to be found on the atoll under almost all weather conditions and visibilities of 20 to 40 metres are the norm. Turtles and dolphins are regularly seen and sometimes you are lucky enough to see (or even get a tow from) whale sharks and pilot whales. There is a full 5 star IDC PADI dive school at the lodge which offers the full range of PADI certificate courses, as well as try dives and snorkelling trips for the non-divers.

ZANZIBAR EXPLORE OPTIONS

In Zanzibar it is very much down to you how much you want to do and how much you want to relax.

One of the worries about arriving at your own beach paradise is what do I do now. With books read, tans topped up and backgammon exhausted here are some suggestions.

Full Day Dhow & Snorkel Trip

For a real treat try a private snorkel trip. This trip has been tried and tested by one of our staff members Tom who rates it as one of his more memorable days out.

Spend the day out at sea and, depending on tides and conditions, stop off on your own private island, beach or sand bank for a picnic lunch. It is a full day excursion using locally made traditional sailing dhows (8-10 metres in length) that are finished to the very highest standards.

The excursion starts at the fishing village of Fumba, 30 minutes drive from Stone Town and heads off to explore the Conservation Area of Menai Bay. The bay has a number of beautiful uninhabited islands and sandbanks and is frequented by humpback and bottlenose dolphins (Dolphins are encountered on at least 85% of trips).

Later in the morning you stop on a sandbank for snorkelling or simply relaxing under the sunshades provided.

After snorkelling enjoy fresh green coconuts before moving to a desert island for lunch, served on teak picnic tables set up beneath the shade of some tamarind trees. Lunch is a traditional Zanzibari meal and includes a selection of grilled fish, slipper lobster, squid, rice, tamarind and coriander sauces. A gastronomic fruit tasting follows with a selection of between 10 to 15 different tropical fruits.

When the tide allows you can visit a beautiful mangrove lagoon where it is possible to swim through the mangrove forest, before returning to Fumba by sail to arrive back at 6 p.m. in time to see the colourful African sunset.

We can book this in advance or you can arrange it when you arrive.

Swim with Dolphins

From the south of the island there is a fantastic boat trip that takes you around some of the outer islands with the highlight, if you are lucky, being swimming with large pods of wild dolphins.

We can book this in advance or you can arrange it when you arrive.

4X4 hire

We strongly recommend hiring a 4x4, if only for a couple of days. It's an excellent way to see the island interior and the deserted coastlines. It is well worth just exploring the smaller roads (if it is dry) and passing the colourful villages or head up a deserted coast line and find your own bit of beach.

We can book this in advance for approximately £30- £40 a day. Alternatively you can arrange it when you arrive.

Diving

There is plenty of diving from Zanzibar. All can be booked direct from the resort. Check diving details out at www.zanzibaroneocean.com
