Day 5 - Day 8

3 nights at Sayari Safari Camp, Serengeti, on an all inclusive basis (all meals and soft drinks, house wines and beers, game drives and park fees)

The Serengeti National Park is vast, stretching from the endless grass plains in the south to the woodlands in the north up to the Kenyan border. The park is 15 000 square kilometres, which covers about half of Belgium and the Serengeti eco-system as a whole is virtually the same size as Belgium.

Inside the tents are very comfortable with king-size beds, beautiful linen and contemporary furniture, giving the tent a very stylish yet homely feel. The lounge tent welcomes you to completely relax, sipping on your drink while looking out over the Serengeti, reading a book or discussing the adventures of the day. A sea of cushions, a wide range of quality drinks and snacks and a wealth of books on nature and wildlife in the area make this a place you can easily lose track of time.

Dinner can be taken in the dining tent but can also be enjoyed privately under the millions of stars in the Serengeti sky. Either way, the wonderful staff will prepare you a meal you wouldn't dream possible in the middle of the camp's remote wilderness location.

Walking in the bush is an unforgettable Serengeti safari experience that brings you the feeling of really being part of the nature around you. Wildlife is frequently encountered, but the sheer beauty of the nature or true interaction with local cultures can be just as rewarding! Walking safaris from Sayari can differ in length and pace according to your choice; the emphasis can be on taking it slowly and having time to smell flowers or on chasing animal trails into the unknown.

The local guides at Sayari Camp have a fantastic knowledge of the area. Open vehicles are used and you can enjoy the freedom of off-road driving to access hidden areas and rare wildlife. Sayari Camp operates in the remotest areas of the Serengeti eco-system, allowing for long game drives undisturbed by other vehicles and affording guests private and unique sightings.

Day 8

Drive back to the Airstrip for your flight to Manyara.  You will be met by another private driver guide who will be with you for your time at Oliver’s Camp.

Day 8 – Day 11

3 nights at Oliver’s Camp on a fully inclusive basis including accommodation in an ensuite tent, all meals and activities (walking, game drives and fly camping)

Tarangire National Park is located in northern Tanzania, 120 km southwest of Arusha. The park is named after the Tarangire River that runs through the centre of the park from south to northwest and drains into lake Burungi. Tarangire is known for its large herds of elephant and its many baobab trees and displays many of the large African mammals including lion, leopard, African buffalo, and lesser and great kudu. The park also hosts an enormous variety of birds - more than 550 species. The park has the highest concentration of wildlife during the dry season, starting in July and – depending on the short rains, lasting until November to February.

Oliver’s Camp is situated in a remote area of the park, in the middle of Tarangire's unspoilt wilderness zone. The camp is ideally placed to access the yearly migrations of wildlife throughout the ecosystem, and to view the impressive concentrations at waterholes for a 6-7 month season each year. Being in the wilderness zone allows us the freedom to offer walking excursions close to the camp, as well as longer walking adventures in the endless woodlands and plains habitat that surrounds us. Off road driving in our open vehicles is another privilege enjoyed by us in this area, something that is not readily available in other National Parks in Northern Tanzania.

Only 5 guest tents are available to ensure the feeling of absolute exclusivity. Solid wooden furniture, beautiful cloth and practical en suite facilities are expertly maintained in each of five sleeping tents. Showers can be taken both inside and outside, under the sky.  Showers are linked to bucketing system, giving the true safari feeling. Water is very scarce in the area of Oliver’s Camp, so the camp’s facilities – including the toilets and showers – are designed to minimize the use of water.

Walking Oliver’s Camp is the base for a unique possibility: walking inside the magnificent Tarangire National Park! The variety of habitats surrounding the Base Camp include open plains, acacia woodlands, tree lined sand rivers, swamps and challenging hill climbs. The walking opportunities for guests staying at Oliver's Camp range from a gentle stroll near the camp, to a full day out on foot across the Park exploring the recently opened wilderness zone. Walking safaris can be combined with fly camping to give guests the ultimate safari experience: walking into your own private camp – where food and drinks await you - after a day of walking through the beauty of Tarangire National Park. Walking safaris are professionally guided and interpreted, and escorted by a park ranger. Vehicle pick-up and drop off can be arranged. Walkie-talkie radios allow contact with vehicles and camps.

Game drives & photography: With local knowledge and up to date information on the areas around the Base Camp, the guides at Oliver’s Camp are second to none when it comes to finding the wildlife. The migratory herds of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and elephant afford us great day-to-day wildlife viewing, and the dry season search for water means that the big cats are never far away. Up to twenty mammal species can be seen on almost every drive. We use open vehicles and enjoy the freedom of off-road driving to access hidden areas and rare wildlife. Few other visitors to this part of the park means long game drives undisturbed by other vehicles, affording our guests private and unique sightings.

Fly camping is a wonderful way to sleep under the stars and enjoy the pure tranquility and raw excitement of the bush. Ten foot square tents made of heavy duty mosquito mesh ensure that you are close to nature but apart from only bugs.  Fly camping in the wilderness areas of Tarangire national park is a perfect compliment to a longer stay at our Base camp. The freedom of movement, the intimacy of the light camp and the thrill of being so close to nature is the pinnacle of many guests’ safaris. Our fly camp is light enough to move easily and strike quickly, but still retains a good comfort level: hot bucket showers, comfortable bedding and cold drinks served with gourmet food.
