Day 2 – Day 4
3 Nights at Home, Buenos
Aires on a bed and breakfast basis
Home has a reputation as the coolest boutique hotel in
Palermo and it is easy to see why. The
interior décor is sleek, modern and stylish throughout the 17 rooms and shared
spaces.
There is a pool area and private
garden where one would expect to see celebs hanging out and a bar that attracts
the trendy BA set. The spa is also an
additional bonus offering a wide range of different treatments. Home is ideally located a short walk from
some of Palermo’s best restaurants and bars and is ideally situated to those
who prefer stylish hotels and a young trendy clientele.
17 rooms, bar, library, internet, pool, spa,
garden.
Suite Facilities:
Air conditioner, fan, TV, CD player,
frigeobar, safe, hairdryer.
Shared Facilities: Pool,
garden, lounge, library, bar internet.
Activities nearby: Restaurants,
bars, boutique shopping, underground rail to rest of Buenos Aires sites.
To escape to verdict: Although
Home oozes style and is a fun place to hang out we thought the staff took their
cool reputation a little too seriously which affected the atmosphere a bit.

What to see and do in Buenos Aires:
There is so much to
encounter in one of the most vibrant and sassy cities in the world. Take a
stroll down to Recoleta, the stylish and glitzy central suburb and watch
spontaneous lunchtime tango dancers in the pretty public gardens, contemplate
in the atmospheric Cemetery of the Recoleta where Eva Peron is buried and
mourners still loyally pass by and lay their respects. Hang out in Plaza San
Martin with views over to trendy Puerto Madero before heading over to gritty
and characterful San Telmo lined with antique shops, the best coffee shops and
the Sunday market is a MUST, closed to traffic and set up with local artists
wares and street performers. Palermo is the ultra trendy leafy suburb with
designer boutiques, art galleries and bars, the place to be seen in and hang
out in street cafes to people watch. La Boca for the famous football club and
home of Maradona. Buenos Aires NEVER disappoints.
Day 5
Transfer
to the domestic airport for the flight to Iguazu Falls. Fly Buenos Aires to
Iguazu. Met for a tour of the Argentine Falls before being driven across the
border to Brazil.
Day 5 – Day 6
2 Nights at Hotel
Das Cataratas, Brazilian Iguaçu Falls on a bed and breakfast basis
The only hotel located right beside the falls in the
Brazilian National Park.
The wonder of the Falls are literally a stone’s throw away
and it’s great to wander the walkways once all the day trippers have left and
you have the Falls to yourselves.
The Das Cataratas is a Brazilian icon with an
impressive guest list including Royalty, presidents, film stars and VIP’s. An
extensive 203 roomed pink and white mock colonial masterpiece perched on the
edge of one of the world’s natural wonders.
The hotel grounds are wonderful to spend time in, lush
tropical gardens surround a good sized outdoor pool with sunloungers and pool
team to keep you cool with refreshments. There’s also a tennis court, games
room with snooker table, table tennis and children’s playground.
But the main event is the roaring Falls and it’s hard to be
distracted from them in such a privileged location.
Room Facilities:
Air conditioner, TV, frigeobar, safe,
telephone.
Shared Facilities: Gardens,
pool, tennis court, games room, bar, restaurant.
Activities nearby: Walkways and
views of the Falls, Bird Park, Helicopter rides.
To escape to verdict: Famous,
large and traditional hotel set in beautiful tropical gardens. Unrivalled
position right beside the Falls. Bedrooms are a little dark with no views of
the Falls.

Iguaçu Falls
The phenominal, spectacular
waterfalls that straddle the borders of three countries (Argentina, Brazil and
Paraguay). The Argentinian Falls have the most extensive walkways with views
over to the thundering Brazilian Falls whilst the Brazilian side allows a close
up experience where one will really feel the power and force of nature.
Exhillarating boat rides are also a great way to appreciate the sheer size and
volume of the Falls. The setting is stunning, green, lush jungle and year round
tropical climate, the area is perfect for relaxing.
Day 7
Fly
from the Brazilian airport at Iguacu to Rio de Janeiro. Met and transfer to
your hotel.
Day 7 – Day 9
3 Nights at La
Maison, Gavea (5 mins drive from Leblon), Rio de Janeiro on a bed and breakfast
basis
One of two converted suburban homes owned by French brothers
Jaques and Francois. La Maison is the more quirky option in the leafy suburb of
Gavea (5 minutes drive from Leblon) with wonderful views to Christ the Redeemer
on Corcorvado Mountain.
This is also a real taste of Rio as also 5 minutes away is
one of the city’s ‘inner’ cities, a favella, with the hustle and bustle of
street life radiating from another aspect of urban Rio.
There are just 5 rooms boldly designed from
black and white stripe to ethnic green and golds, a hotch potch of features and
varying touches of cuteness and
kitsch.
La Maison is not for the faint hearted but does have a house
guest feel about it and the pool and gardens are a pleasure to spend time in.
It’s an open house to guests with no locks on the doors or
safes but gated entrance.
Room Facilities:
ipod docks, mosquito nets, balconies
or inside/outside shower with terrace.
Shared Facilities: Pool,
gardens, breakfast and evening meal table, wi-fi, tv.
Activities nearby: Beach,
shopping, Rio sites – Sugar Loaf, Corcovado, Copacabana, hip shopping at
Leblon.
To escape to verdict: Another great alternative to the
beach high rise hotels. Rooms are big but there is definitely a house guest
atmosphere so expect to mingle with fellow visitors. Cool and quirky with great
views and away from the traditional tourist experience.

Rio de Janeiro
One of the most
spectacular cities in the world. There is nowhere like Rio for the stunning
setting scattered over mountains bordering the Atlantic, the sizzling endless
beaches, the lush vegetation, the most vibrant and colourful of cultures,
cosmopolitan and stylish shops, restuarants and bars, roof top cocktails at
sunset. It’s hard to fall asleep in Rio! The must do’s are of course Corcovado
and the Statue of Christ, the Sugar Loaf, strolling along the beach front from Cococabana to
Ipanema and Leblon, a visit to a favella, a sunset cruise
on the bay – one of the most energetic and photogenic cities on the planet.
Day 10
Transfer
to Paraty. Around a four hour drive south of Rio skirting the coast with
wonderful views.
Day 10 - Day 11
2 Nights at Pousada
Arte Urquijo, Paraty, on a bed and breakfast basis
Charming, delightful, bohemian pousada in the historical centre
of Paraty with 6 rooms some of which overlook the bay.
There are beautiful touches in the large downstairs communal
area with lots of little separate areas with cushions, sofas and rugs and
wonderful swirling works of art and antiques. A very ethnic feel.
Lovely outside small plunge pool surrounded
by decking and lots of tropical plants ideal for a quick dip.
Rooms are small but with beautiful touches, lots of wood and
one feels a bit like being in a cabin on an old schooner.
Bathrooms are bijou as is the feel of
the two upstairs floors where the bedrooms are situated.

The staff are very friendly and breakfast is wonderful,
served by the pool in pretty antique crockery. Breakfast is served purposefully
late so that you can relax in the morning by either lying in or taking a
morning stroll around the harbour.
Room Facilities: Air-com,
fan, TV, shared fridge outside the room on landing.
Activities nearby: Wandering historic
Paraty with wonderful local art/crafts, boat trips to islands.
To escape to verdict: A lovely little bohemian pousada,
very pretty but not much space upstairs accessed by narrow staircase. Rooms and
bathrooms are on the small side and soundproofing is not the best!

Wander the world heritage
cobbled colonial streets, popping into the excellent local craft shops.
Beautiful works of art, sculptures, textiles, and ceramics. Hire a boatman to
take you to one of the islands of paradise for a picnic, swim and snorkel. Take
a local cooking class and enjoy and puppet show followed by Caiparinhas in a
harbour side bar.
Day 12
You’ll
be collected from your hotel for the 30-40 minute drive to Picinguaba.
Day 12 – Day 15
4 Nights at Pousada
Picinguaba, 40 mins drive from Paraty, breakfast & dinner.
The Pousada in the little fishing village of Picinguaba and
very proud to completely disconnect you from the world outside. There is no
internet connection in the rooms, no telephone, tv or air conditioner.
Rooms are white washed with sea blue trim, high quality
crisp bed linen, ceiling fan and mosquito net. All have balconies with hammock
and fresh chilled spring water in a flask. Simplicity is the theme throughout the pousada.
There are only
10 rooms, surrounding specious gardens with medium sized pool positioned high
above the pretty harbour, fishing village and 3 km deserted beach which is a 20
minute kayak paddle away.

Lots of local touches have been purposefully
incorporated by the French owner, Emmanuel. 20 local people are employed from
the village and they use the natural spring and local fruit, vegetables and of
course magnificent fresh fish.
Breakfast and dinner are included but a packed lunch can be
prepared or the fresh catch of the day in the beach café in the village. There
is an honesty box for the bar if you fancy a night cap.
Room Facilities:
Balcony, hammock, fan, fresh chilled
spring water, mosquito net.
Activities nearby: 3 km
deserted beach, kayaks, 2 surf beaches, schooner trips, rainforest hikes, jeep
safari, speed boat to romantic deserted islands.
To escape to verdict: We love Picinguaba in
every respect especially for it’s simplicity, location and charming staff. It’s
a very special place to really escape the pressures of our media led society
and find nature again and time for each other. Perfect for beginning or end of
a holiday or simply a whole holiday and nothing else!
